Services of Indira to nation remembered
Tirupati: The services of first woman Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi were lauded by the speakers at a function organised at Gandhi Trust Bhavan in Tirupati on Monday commemorating her birth centenary year.
Former MP Chinta Mohan organised this meeting in which former Speaker of AP Assembly Agarala Eswar Reddy and other Congress leaders also spoke. Mohan in his address said that the dynamic and daring decisions of Indira Gandhi were uncherished in history. It was she, who laid foundation for nationalization of banks in the country.
She took several steps for the development of poor and downtrodden sections of the society. Congress leaders P Naveen Kumar Reddy, Ramachandra Reddy, Venkataramana, Prameelamma, Former Principal of SPW Degree College C Swarajya Lakshmi and others participated. The leaders garlanded the portrait of Indira Gandhi and paid rich tributes.
At a separate meeting held at government social welfare girls’ hostel in Tirupati, PCC secretary T Venkata Narasimhulu, Nainar Srinivasulu and others recalled the days of Indira Gandhi while she was Prime Minister. With her dynamic decisions, she has emerged as one of the powerful leaders in the country. Her ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan became so popular which was aimed at driving away the poverty from the country and continued the reservations of SCs and STs after the time frame of 20 years set by Dr BR Ambedkar.
