Involve people in tree plantation, officials told in Rajamahendravaram

 Rajamahendravaram: Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council deputy chairman Reddy Subramanyam has said that the government is putting in efforts to achieve fifty percent green coverage by massive plantations in the state.

Participating in Karthika Vana Samaradhna held at Nagaravanam here on Friday, he said at present there was 26 percent of green coverage in the state and underlined to improve it. He asked the officials of forest department to involve people in massive plantations.

Mayor Pantham Rajani Sesha Sai said Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation also took up massive plantation programme in the city to make it a green city. It was the duty of all sections of people to protect the trees.

MLC Adireddy Appa Rao underlined the need to protect our tradition and culture which was the need of the hour.

Chief Conservator of Forests Santhi Priya Pandey informed that the state government had taken up a massive plantation programme with 27 crore saplings to be planted during this year.

In Rajamahendravaram circle about 11 crore saplings were planted as part of the target set, he added.

GUDA chairman Ganni Krishna, forest officers Nandana Salaria, Srinivas and others were present.
