Denizens face hardships to update Aadhaar cards

Visakhapatnam: Aadhaar which was introduced by the Central government with  a unique identity number is causing problems to the denizens. The people of city have been facing tough times to register their names for new Aadhaar card and even for making simple modifications in the  Aadhaar card which they possess.

They are forced  to go around banks for several days as the banks are issuing only 15 tokens per day while the post offices are not providing Aadhaar services due to lack of enough staff. People urge  the authorities to shift back the works of Aadhaar modifications to e-Seva centres as banks are not able to provide services to the needy. 

As per the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIAI) records, Andhra Pradesh stood at 23rd place among 36 states with a  total population (2018) of 52,883 has saturation level of 92.3 per cent while  Telangana with a  population of 38,472,769 has 100.9% saturation levels. Delhi with a population of 18,345,784 topped in the rank table among the others.

Even for simple modifications like spelling errors in name and DOB corrections, the denizens in Visakhapatnam are roaming for many days around the banks as the banks are allocating only 15 applications per day.

There are 348 nationalised banks in the city in which only 15 percent of the banks are offering the Aadhaar update and modifications services .  Even some of  the major  post offices in the city fail to provide Aadhaar services due to inadequate staff.

G Srikanth  a unemployed guy who wants to upload his documents for the state  government announced dole was rejected in the last month due to a small spelling mistake in Aadhaar, since last one month he has been going round  the banks, he also stated that  some of the banks do not provide Aadhaar services regularly. 

A senior post master, on condition of anonymity,  said that already the Central government issued  many works to them like opening savings accounts, life insurance, fixed deposits and other services. Recently in addition to that these Aadhaar service has been handed over to them. ``Due to lack of adequate staff, how we can manage all those things,’’ he questioned.
