Guntur: The district administration has directed the NEDCAP to purchase 100 battery charged electric cars replacing the conventional petrol and diesel hired cars in the government offices. These cars are expected to hit the Guntur roads within three months.

According to officials, the electric cars will reduce air pollution. Due to use of diesel and petrol, air pollution is increasing and causing environment problems. Taking this into consideration, the government directed to use battery charged electric cars in the state.

SPDCL chairman M M Naik has already directed set up electrical charging stations. Following his orders, the civic officials have taken steps to set up electric charging stations. “Within a month, 100 battery charging stations will  come up in the state,”said NEDCAP district manager D V Prasad.

Maintenance of battery charged electric cars are very much less compared to diesel and petrol cars. Maintenance of electrical car is Rs 1 per kilometre for diesel car we have to spend Rs 4 per kilometre. Once battery is fully charged, we can travel up to 100-110 kms," he said. District Collector Kona Sasidhar on Wednesday drove electric car in his camp office in Guntur city and expressed satisfaction over its performance.
