Kanyasulkam deserves Nobel, says Haragopal
Guntur: Human rights activist Prof G Haragopal said Gurajada Apparao was a Telugu poet and writer and wrote the first Telugu play 'Kanyasulkam', which is often considered the greatest play in the Telugu language.
He said the later worked for 17 years to pen that play and felt that if it was written in English, Gurajada would have got the Nobel prize for that marvelous work, he said.
He was speaking at a meeting to mark 103rd death anniversary of Gurajada at Food Science College in Bapatla on Friday. He garlanded Gurajada’s portrait and paid tributes to him.
Forum For Better Bapatla secretary P C Sai Babu said that Gurazada frequently dabbled in poetry and was credited with creating a new style of poetry in Telugu Language.
He also holds the titles Kavishekara and Abyudaya Kavitha Pithamahudu. The success of Kanyasulkam made Gurajada a sort of celebrity.
Artist GV said that all students should read Kanyasulkam, which was still relevant for present day circumstances. Faculty members and students participated.
