Silver articles worth 79L seized; 4 arrested

Vijayawada: The city task force police arrested two silver traders and two workers and seized silver articles weighing 221 kgs valued at Rs 79.56 lakh for not having bills in One town police station limits on Sunday.

The accused were trying to transport silver articles to other towns for sale. Two brothers Raju Singh Rathod and Arjun Singh along with two workers Prajapati Ganapati and Naresh Mali were transporting silver articles without bills and nabbed by task force police.

Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, in a press release, said on Sunday the two traders from Rajasthan came to Vijayawada and settled in town 10 years ago. They purchase silver at low price in Rajasthan and bring it to Vijayawada and manufacture different items.

They pay taxes for only 10 per cent of the stock and evade for the remaining stock. They sell the silver articles at high price in Guntur, Eluru and other places in the State and earn huge profits. The task force team conducted raid under the supervision of ACP G Rajiv Kumar.

Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said the traders evade taxes and cause loss to the government. He said the police department would act on the culprits who evade taxes to the government.
