Cab owners, drivers plan stir on Dec 14

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag Cab Owners and Drivers Association (VCODA) planned to stage a dharna along with the support of CITU on December 14 in the city. The association formed a meeting at CITU office here on Wednesday in the city and announced their decision.

Addressing media, CITU city secretary B Jagan alleged that Ola and Uber were making good profits with the efforts of poor cab drivers and owners by offering 25 to 30 per cent commission to them. The huge investments on cabs done by the cab owners and profit earnings going into the pockets of Ola and Uber companies, they alleged.

The VCODA representative demanded that the management should pay Rs 14 per kilometer under Uber Go category and Rs 16 per kilometer under X category. They also demanded that the incentive slab rates under the 72 municipal wards should be on 1:3 ratio.  At present both the managements were following weekly payments to the cab drivers and it should be revised and payments should be done for every four days.

The managements were paying according to the navigation on the GPRS registered whereas sometimes the customers were opting subsequent routes which records more kilometers  than the registered.

They also demanded the managements should exempt the toll expenses at tourist spots like Kailashgiri and Ramanaidu studios in the city. This month from 8 to  10 novel protest will be carried out at various areas in the city by the VCODA, representatives added.
