Police thrash agitating municipal workers
Ongole: The police thrashed down the municipal employees and workers who were agitating against the introduction of real time monitoring system (RTMS) at the municipal office here on Thursday.
The municipal employees were protesting the decision of the introduction of RTMS in their work as per the GO MS 279.
They were staging the protest in front of the Collectorate and municipal office for the last few days and taking up various programmes like rallies and submitting urges to the officials.
On Wednesday they tried to submit a representation to the MLA Damcharla Janardhan Rao, but due to his unavailability they held a rasta-roko at Rama Nagar giving slogans against the MLA and municipal commissioner Sankranti Venkata Krishna.
Similar protests were planned on Thursday and the workers started to raise slogans against the MLA and the commissioner in front of the municipal office.
In the mean time, the additional joint collector D Markandeyulu reached the municipal office for grounding of various units by the beneficiaries. The protesting workers tried to gherao the AJC and surrounded his car.
They demanded the AJC respond on the RTMS and raised slogans against the government for forceful implementation of the RTMS without providing certain facilities.
The police dragged out the agitating workers to make way to the AJC and thrashed them all aside using force. They took the key leaders of the municipal workers into custody. They shifted them to the neighboring police station.
