Services of home guards lauded

Chittoor: Recognising the services of home guards in regulating traffic, prevention of crime and other law related issues, the State government has hiked the honorarium up to Rs 600 per day, according to District Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patel. 

Apart from honorarium, the home guards are entitled to several benefits including health insurance, he stated while participating in the 56th Home Guards Raising Day held at old DPO here on Thursday. The SP received the guard of honour from the home guards at the parade ground. 

Addressing the home guards, Vikrant Patel said that 797 home guards were serving in the district in which 615 were handling law and order duties and the rest were deputed in other departments.

The SP further said that a fund was created for the benefit of home guards to attend their financial needs. A 3-month maternity leave with wages for women home guards would be allowed, he mentioned. Additional SPs E Supraja and Krishnarjuna Rao, DSPs Ramakrishna, Krishnamohan, Kesappa, Sridhar and Suryanarayana were present.
