  • Durga temple flyover works are moving at snail's pace

Vijayawada: The completion of ongoing construction works of two flyovers in the city before the 2019 elections appears to be doubtful. Already the construction company of Benz Circle flyover requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to give eight months extension (up to next October) to complete the project. While Durga temple flyover works are still moving at snail's pace.

Several works including four pillars and ramp construction work is yet to be initiated along with bridge slab erection work. The completion of two bridges is important to the State government to showcase its commitment to develop the city before the forthcoming elections.

In fact, the completion of two projects is important to not only citizens and to people of the State. The two flyovers at Benz Circle and Durga temple both assumed statewide significance as they are being constructed at important bottle-necks in Howrah-Chennai National Highway and Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway stretches.

So people of all areas also know about the importance of completion of the two projects. In this backdrop, the State government has taken up the projects seriously and released funds for early completion of the project.

But still the construction of ramp at two sides of bridge and two pillars and bridge slab works between the six pillars are yet to be constructed.

On the other hand, the flyover construction work at Benz Circle has been completed with good progress so far. But the construction company is facing some hurdles to complete the ramp works on both sides of bridge and some more pillars works are still in midway.

At least, the State government felt that the flyover would have been completed before the elections. But unexpectedly, the situation seems that the works may take more time, said one NHAI official. He said the road works are getting delayed naturally due to various reasons.
