2.94 L people getting pensions in Nellore district: Somireddy

Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that State government has been sanctioning pensions to toddy tappers, weavers and destitute (single) women at the age of 50, and some sections of SCs are getting even at the age of 40.

He addressed at a programme in Manubolu mandal on Sunday and said that the previous government was giving only Rs. 5.65 crore as pensions in the district and the amount increased to around Rs. 32 crore for 2.94 lakh people.

The minister also said that they had taken up development works in Sarvepalli constituency with Rs. 1500 crore. He said the State government is giving Chandranna Pelli Kanuka, Chandranna Bima, free power up to 100 units to SC/ST population and many other benefits. The Minister said the welfare activities are being taken up irrespective of politics.

Somireddy also said that the Prime Minister Modi is taking back funds already allocated to the State and still the State government is striving to maintain two- digit progress at 10.5. Now, he said, historic Godavari-Penna interlinking started in the State and rural areas are resembling full moon days with glowing LED bulbs.

He also said that he was not having properties even at his native village Allipuram in Nellore rural mandal. Some leaders have lodged complaints against him even with the Prime Minister seeking enquiry. The TDP is   ready to face elections at anytime, he added.
