Inter Board golden jubilee fete conducted

  Vijayawada: Commissioner of Board of Intermediate and Secretary of the Board B Udaya Lakshmi said that the Intermediate education is an important stage in the 3-tier education system which is being implemented in Andhra Pradesh since 1968-69. The first academic batch of Intermediate had started in 1968-69 and completed 50 years in 2018. She was the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebration of Intermediate Board held here on Monday and distributed prizes to the winners of the competition.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Udaya Lakshmi said that several norms were brought by the Board of Intermediate since  inception of Intermediate education which was recommended by Kothari Commission. In the last 50 years, the number of students gradually grew from 20,000 to 10 lakh, she said. 

The Commissioner said that reforms taken-up included 3 sets of question papers, jumbling system in theory and practical examinations,  allocation of the examiner and installing CC cameras for the surveillance of the examinations.  Biometric attendance to the staff and the lecturers was introduced in recent past for  improving their responsibility, she said. Recently in the year 2018, the Board has introduced grading system to decrease stress among students. It also introduced Mid-day meal to the intermediate students to prevent dropouts, she further said.  

As many as 800 students from 320 Junior colleges, including government and private institutions, in the district participated in the competitions and out of them, 400 were given prizes and certificates of participation.
 
The district level competitions were held earlier to mark golden jubilee celebrations which concluded here on Monday at PB Siddhartha College of Arts and Science Auditorium.
