Action will be taken on hoarders: Pushparaj

Ongole: Andhra Pradesh State Food Commission chairman JR Pushparaj announced that stringent action will be taken on the illegal hoarders of commodities. The chairman and other members of food commission visited Ongole on Thursday and conducted surprise checks in Prakasam district.

The commission members including N Srinivasa Rao, G Krishnamma, LB Venkata Rao, S Swatantra Geetha and member secretary G Ravi Babu conducted a review meeting with the officials in Ongole and visited the schools, hostels and aanganwadi centres at Ramayapatnam, Reddipalem, Pallepalem of Ulavapadu mandal.

They found rotten eggs and non-labeled red gram packets at Pallepalem MPP School and warned the education department officials. Pusharaj said that the commission has fined the education department officials Rs 1 lakh for the negligence in Kadapa district and warned the local officers to be careful. They ordered the tahsildar to submit a report to the collector on the implementation of midday meals and attendance of the students in the schools they visited.

Pushparaj said the government appointed the food commission to see that no one hoard commodities and cheat public. He said they were receiving complaints that the groceries being supplied to social welfare, women welfare hostels and aanganwadi centres and warned that action would be taken on all of them involved. He also warned that they would act on the contractors also who are supplying poor quality products. He ordered the officials to conduct food committee meetings in the district regularly.
