Madakasira (Anantapur): The Supreme Court upheld the High Court order annulling the membership of K Eranna of the AP Legislative Assembly in 2014 . K.Eranna, a member of the ruling TDP, submitted his resignation as MLA to the Assembly secretary in Assembly format in the absence of the Speaker K Siva Prasada Rao at the Assembly secretariat on Friday.

Observers see a design in the swift move of the MLA to submit his resignation even before the Assembly received the Supreme Court order to show the seat vacant to the Supreme Court and prevent the YSRCP candidate P Tippeswamy who lost to Eranna from claiming the membership to AP Assembly.

Eranna has three cases pending in Karnataka Kodugu Munsiff Magistrate Court relating to attempt to murder, a case relating to links with Naxalites and illegal possession of arms, etc. Besides, a case was pending against him on distribution of money to voters in panchayat elections. The three cases were pending in courts for 17 years. The accusation against him was that he kept the Election Commission in dark about the cases.
