Self Help Groups obstruct pvt vehicles for midday meals

Vizianagaram: Tension prevailed at Nellimarla in Vizianagaram district when members of women self-help groups (SHGs), who are providing midday meals (MDM) at schools, obstructed the vehicles of a private agency, which has taken up the responsibility of supplying meals recently.

The government has transferred the MDM responsibility to a private agency from SHGs. The government gave responsibility of supplying meals to Prayaas, a private agency, recently in Denkada, Nellimarla and Vizianagaram mandals. 

The SHGs have been struggling to prepare food as the government was not releasing their bills on time. Acting on the information, the police brought the situation under control by arresting the women and leaders like B Ashok, T V Ramana and P Krishnamraju.
