Women need to exercise regularly: Mithali Raj

Vijayawada: Regular exercise, intake of calcium-rich diet and with mental peace women would be healthy, said Indian women cricket captain Mithali Raj. 

She was the chief guest of the inaugural programme of ‘Joint Knee Implant’ for women organised by Sai Bhaskar Hospital here on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering Mithali Raj said that women in India do not show interest in exercise and there is a wrong notion that only sports women and players should do exercise which is not correct.

She said that women after thirty years should take utmost care of their joints by taking balanced and calcium-rich diet and exercise to stay fit and healthy.  
 
She appreciated the initiative of Sai Bhaskar Hospital and Unnathi Foundation jointly to create awareness with a slogan ‘Healthy Bones – Healthy India’. She said that she would always support the cause, she added.

Sai Bhaskar Hospital head B Narendra Reddy said that there is a slight structural difference in the knee joint of male and female and gender knee joint replacement was introduced for the first time, said the doctor.

Cricketers R Kalpana, Veda Krishnamurthy, Arundhathi Reddy and other players along with NTR Vaidyaseva former CEO Ravishankar, Vijayawada Orthopaedic association secretary K Vasu, Joint replacement surgeon Dr N Jagadish, Dr Akarsh, Dr M Srinivas, Dr Deepthi Reddy, and coach Devendra and others were present on the occasion.
