3 Chaddi gang members nabbed

Visakhapatnam: The city police on Tuesday arrested three members of Chaddi gang and produced them before media here on Wednesday. The arrested were identified as M Kamji (prime accused), M Sumalabhai alias Sumla and S Ramul Bhai, belonging to tribal community from Dahod district of Gujarat.

Addressing the media, City Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddah said that the Chaddi gang formed as a team with 6-8 members and started committing offences since 2010 at Visakhapatnam (16), Tirupati (2), Nellore (1) in Andhra and Khammam (1) in Telangana state. The prime target of the gang is apartments and independent houses located at isolated places.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to 20 night house breaking (NHB)offences including one robbery and they also revealed five names of other gang members S Khaljee, P Ramesh, K Rumal, K Mala and M Meda. Among them M Meda hails from Jagwa district of Madya Pradesh and the other four hail from Dahod district of Gujarat.

All the five are yet to be arrested by the police. The gang never committed crimes in the Gujarat, said Mahesh Chandra Laddha. Among 40 cases, police had arrested 13 accused who were involved in night house breakings, two-wheeler thefts, snatching and robbery offences and recovered property worth Rs 1.45 crore from their possession.

The police arrested five members against whom cases were pending at Pendurthy (9), Airport (4), Gopalapatnam (1), Yelamanchili (1) and the police recovered 609 grams gold, 1164 grams silver ornaments, a swift car, two cellphones, two motorcycles and one motor pump which is worth of around Rs 24,93,000.

In another similar case, police arrested eight members including 3-member Chaddi gang and police managed to recover 400 grams of silver and one rod from Chaddi gang. The arrested five members were identified as P Jogi Babu, V Raju, D Prasad, G Surya Nageswar Rao and M Surappa and the police recovered Rs 75.52 lakhs from their possession which includes big trailers (3) and 12 lorry tyres, Rs 1,000 in cash and one cell phone from them.

Cases were registered at various police limits against the five arrested, Gajuwaka (7), PM Palem(5), Duvvada(6),  Bheemili (2), Arilova (1) and other offence registered at Nellore 4th town police limits including Tirupati (2) and Khammam(1). All the 13 accused were sent for remand. Among them, the three Chaddi gang members will be taken for police custody to recover the remaining stolen property and to apprehend the remaining accused, said Mahesh Chandra Laddha.
