Election Commission removes 1,28,840 votes after verification

Amaravati: A total of 1,28,840 votes in the state have been removed from the electoral rolls after completing the verification of more than 25.4 lakh doubtful votes by the Election Commission of India. The votes were removed for different reasons, including due to death, migration, duplication and modification.

Of the total doubtful votes, the Election Commission found that 20,65,032 as genuine and all of them were retained as they are, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) RP Sisodia, in a statement on Thursday.

The commission removed 38,331 votes due to death after obtaining confirmation through the official documents of the state government. As many as 54,516 votes were removed as the EC found that they had migrated. It was found that 31,158 votes as duplicate and hence deleted from the electoral rolls and 3,52,383 votes were modified as requested by the voters.

East Godavari tops in removal of votes (17,059),  followed by Chittoor (16,607), Visakhapatnam (14,105), Nellore (12,005 votes), Kurnool (11,788), Anantapur (11,155), Guntur (10,485), Krishna (7,014), Prakasam (6,335), Srikakulam (5,618), West Godavari (5,292 ) and Vizianagaram (4776 voters). As many as 6,168 votes were deleted in Kurnool district due to death. Similarly, deletions owing to death are 5,373 in Chittoor and 5,061 in Anantapur districts.
