Fishermen demand ST tag for community
Srikakulam: Fishermen poured their woes before YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday. As part of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, he covered several villages in Tekkali assembly segment on 326 th day of his tour. On the occasion, fishermen poured their woes before Jagan complaining that TDP government failed to fulfil its assurances made to them during 2014 elections.
Government failed to include them in ST category list and they urged for an assurance from Jagan on inclusion of their community into ST list. The fishermen also demanded jetties on the sea coast to improve facilities for fish hunting and also requested more employment opportunities to them to prevent migrations of their community people to other areas like Gujarat and Karnataka State for fish hunting.
They requested Rs 10,000 for per month as compensation for fishing ban period and also demanded a corporation to fishermen community development in the State. They also urged more compensation for the kin of those who die during fish hunt, insurance facility for victims of calamities and reduction of age to get pension. The YSRCP chief responded positively to the demands of fishermen and they also expressed happy over positive response from YS Jagan.
