More farmers need to shift to nature farming: Palekar
Guntur: Nature farming exponent Dr Subhash Palekar, opposing crop loan waiver scheme, felt that the farmers needed to be freed from loans. He said nature farming is the only solution for farmers to get more yield with less investment in the agriculture. He added that at present only eight per cent farmers are going for nature farming in the state. He stressed on need to shift some more farmers to nature farming.
Addressing a press meet on Tuesday at ANU, he said that due to use of chemical fertilisers in cultivation, environment is being damaged and land fertility is coming down. He said that if more farmers shifted to nature farming, fertilizers and pesticides consumption will come down which would result in less investment by farmers. He said when the farmers gets more yield with less investment, there will be no more suicide by farmers.
