Indian students need to focus on research

Vijayawada: The students should acquire in-depth knowledge on the latest scientific and technical topics, said Prof RR Rao, scientist at Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants.

He was the chief guest of the two-day science academies lecture workshop on the topic ‘Bio-Diversity, Conservation and Human Welfare’ organised by the Botany department of KBN college on Friday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Rao said that Bio-Diversity, Conservation and Human Welfare is a very important topic and research should be done on bio-degradable waste. 

He said that in small countries like Singapore, research and development is on the forefront and many countries were showing interest in innovation. 

However, India which has the highest number of talented youth was lagging behind in those areas, which was a big concern.

He said that Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, The National Academy of Science organisations were striving to overcome in these areas. As part of the efforts, these workshops were being organised, he added.

College vice-principal Dr K Naveen Kumar, Prof D Bhagyaraj Joseph, Prof MNV Prasad, Prof K Shivan, workshop convener Dr G Ramesh, Dr V Subhashini, and other were present.
