Andhra Hospitals, Rotary Club to conduct 62 surgeries

Vijayawada: A joint meeting of Rotary Club of Vijayawada and Andhra Hospitals is held on Sunday at Andhra Hospitals Heart & Brain Institute to inaugurate the most prestigious project of Rotary Club. The project aims at providing 62 surgeries to poor children for congenital heart diseases. Project Chairman Dr G V  Mohan Prasad chaired the meeting. Rotary past district governor Sam Movva attended as the guest of honour. 

The Rotary Club celebrating Platinum jubilee this year has been serving the community in need in respect of education, health, vocation and economic development. The Club has undertaken many projects such as housing, water & sanitation and construction of toilets for the benefit of communities in need in Vijayawada for the last 75 years.

As part of community service, Rotary Club has undertaken current project through Andhra Hospitals to provide heart surgeries to poor 62 children at free of cost. Andhra Hospitals which started 14 years ago and which has been doing an outstanding service in health to the poor communities, has come forward to undertake these operations for children at subsidised and low cost.

The Rotary Club has appreciated Andhra Hospitals for performing operations to poor children on their behalf. The total grant amount for project is Rs 35,66,920 as provided by Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for the operations for children.

The guest of honour appreciated the Andhra Hospitals for taking up the job for Rotary. Karini Chanti Raju, a member of Rotary Club of Vijayawada, is very much appreciated for his being instrumental in procuring the project from international sponsors for poor children suffering from heart problems.

Managing Director of Andhra Hospitals and Surgical Gastroenterologist, Dr P V Ramana Murthy said that we successfully performed 500 children’s heart surgeries till now in the last 3 years.

Dr Paturi Venkata Rama Rao, chief of Children’s Services and Director, Pediatric Cardiac Team Dr K Vikram, Dr R Dilip, Dr J Srimannarayana, Dr J Ramesh, Dr M Krishna Prasad and Dr K Prasanth and other doctors from the Andhra Hospitals were present and thanked Rotary Club for giving opportunity to reach out to children in medical needs.

Rotary Past District Governors Dr K Pattabhi Ramaiah, Dr M C Das members of Rotary Club of Vijayawada, pediatric doctors and nurses of Andhra Hospitals and others participated in the event.
