Speed up probe into demolition of Ambedkar statue: Panel

Visakhapatnam: National SC/ST Commission member K Ramulu directed the police and APSRTC officials to speed up the probe into the demolition of Dr B R Ambedkar statue at Gajuwaka and the suicide of RTC employee of Simhachalam Depot.

The member convened a review meeting with all the district officials in the city on Monday. Recently one of the employees of Simhachalam RTC Depot committed suicide after levelling several allegations on his bosses.

The SC and ST Associations brought this issue to the notice of National SC and ST Commission. While reviewing the various issues, Ramulu enquired about the progress of investigation into RTC employee suicide.

He also enquired about the implementation of reservation for SCs in the Assembly segments and divisions in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. He directed the officials to reserve the seats according to the population of SCs in the district. Ramulu also reviewed the industrial activities in the district. 

Collector Pravin Kumar informed the member the district has 3 lakh SC population and as per SC sub-plan, the funds would be spent for their welfare. Joint Collector G Srujana, Commissioner of VMRDA Basanth Kumar, Joint Collector-2 Dr A Siri and officials from GVMC, DRDA, excise, police, social welfare and SC Corporation explained department wise activities to the commission member.
