Amaravati: Giving hope to the Rayalaseema people, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation stone for setting up of the Steel Plant at Kadapa on Thursday. State government is investing Rs 18,000 crore in the first phase and Rs 15,000 in second phase to generate 10,000 employment.

In fact, the steel plant is supposed to be established by the central government as part of the promise given in the AP Reorganization Act. But, the centre denied subsequently to establish it. hence, the Chief Minister took the initiative by saying that no one could stop the development of the AP.

He further added that the state government will construct the plant very soon. “It is not for elections. But, we are constructing it to give a befitting lesson to the centre. They violated the AP Reorganization Act by not constructing it. We took it seriously and setting up for the development of Rayalaseema.”, he added.

“The SAIL gave a wrong report on it by saying that this project is not viable. After that state government constituted a committee to examine the feasibility. In that committee they explained that it would be profitable. Still, the centre has been opposing it by saying cock and bull stories.”, he added.

Further he said that, “the centre was asking many doubts on infrastructure availability like water, railway connectivity, airport and other road networks... 11 times they asked for various doubts. State government gave clear answers to each question. Myself wrote letters to PM demanding to establish it. TDP MPs fought with the centre in the Parliament, moved no confidence motion, did protests across the state, MP CM Ramesh and MLC Ravindra Nath Reddy staged hunger strikes. But, the centre did not convince. They did not do justice to us”

Questioning the role of opposition YSRCP in demanding the steel plant, Chandrababu Naidu said that the leader of opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy did not even ask the centre to establish it. He said that he gave ultimatum to the centre by giving 60 days specific time frame, failing which we took initiative to establish this.

“We suggested three ways. 1. Centre must establish it and state will provide necessary land and others.
