Enroll details of pregnant women, children: Collector B Lakshmikantham

Vijayawada: Collector B Lakshmikantham has said the district administration has been taking steps to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates in the district.

Inaugurating the training manual for master trainers of ICDS project at the Women and Child Welfare department office here on Thursday, Lakshmikantham said 3,812 Angwani workers in Krishna district should play important role in reducing the maternal and infant mortality rates.

He distributed smart phones to some Angwanwadi workers on the occasion and asked them to download the Common Application Software App (CAS App) to enroll the details of pregnant women and children in the district. He made it clear all Anganwadi workers must possess smart phones and download the CAS App without fail to maintain data in real time. 

He said the Krishna district administration has successfully reduced the maternal mortality rate from 67 per one lakh to 40 per lakh in recent years. He said the objective of district administration is to reduce the deaths to zero in future.

He asked the Anganwadi workers to maintain health data of children and pregnant women without fail. He said anemia among women decreased due to supply of nutritional food to Anganwadi centres.

He said infant mortality rate is six per 1,000 in the district against seven deaths in Kerala State. He asked the Anganwadi workers to monitor the health record of lactating mothers and babies and ensure that mothers should breastfeed their babies. ICDS Project Director K Krishna Kumari, Vijayawada rural mandal parishat development officer J Umadevi and others were present on the occasion.
