Guntur: Family farms are important economic drivers for rural communities, said P Harikrishna Prasad, Superintendent of Post Offices, Tenali.

He said the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2019-28 the Decade of Family Farming.

He said the decade aims to inspire the international community to generate a political commitment supporting family farmers and added that policy document of the decade is released under the aegis of Forum For Better Bapatla on Friday.

Speaking on this occasion, he said that family farmers are key leaders in ensuring food, eradicating poverty, ending hunger and conserving biodiversity.

Forum for Better Bapatla secretary PC Sai Babu said the family farm can be a source of employment for others in the community and therefore stimulate economic activity beyond the farm gate, cascading into an important stimulus for labour and economic security as well.
