Web portal on rescued children launched in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Dhananjayulu said that about 20 run away children reach Vijayawada railway station every month and about 90 percent of them are rescued and reunited with their parents with the help of RPF, GRP and voluntary organizations like Childline.

The DRM launched RPF web portal on rescued children at his office here on Friday.

Addressing the media, the DRM said RPF, Vijayawada division came up with an innovative idea of reuniting the missing and run away children with their families by using technology.

He said many children who leaves home due to various reasons use Railway as a medium of transport due to the massive volume of passenger flow and long distance of travel. 

A lot of such runaway children are rescued by RPF and GRP staff almost every day.

He said that RPF staff of Vijayawada division has rescued 230 runaway children in the year 2017 and 246 children in 2018. 

The identified parents and hostel in-charges of the children are called to RPF posts and outposts and the children are handed over. 

If the parents cannot be identified, the children are handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) through authorised NGO. 

As per the instruction of Special Commissioner, the details are mailed to Sr DSC/RPF/Office twice in a week. 

Those details are displayed in the RPF web portal of Vijayawada division, he added.

Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, Ch D Tirumala Rao, KRM Kishore Kumar, Additional DGP of Police, Railways, BDV Prasada Murthy, Joint Director of Juvenile Welfare Department, AP and others were present.
