Stalemate on relief to victim of port mishap continues

Kakinada: The stalemate on compensation payable to deceased in Kakinada Deep Water Port accident continued Sunday also. It may be recalled that one person V Lakshmana Kumar, an electrical engineer working  for the SKL company was killed on the spot and eight more one of them P Prasad sustained serious injuries.

According to information available, director of ports Dr Koya Praveen prevailed upon the company management to pay compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the family of deceased and Rs 2 lakh to injured in addition to salary till they resume their duties.

But it is said that the package offered is not acceptable to either injured or to the fellow engineers and kin of deceased Lakshmana Kumar. It is said that they are demanding Rs 45 lakh as compensation. According to Kakinada Port police station CI Rajasekher, the issue of compensation will be discussed on Monday.

Meanwhile Kakinada RDO and sub-divisional magistrate G RajaKumari submitted preliminary report to government after obtaining comprehensive reports from deputy commissioner of labour and deputy inspector of factories on Sunday.
