Chandrababu Naidu opposes Triple Talaq Bill; says law should be same for all
Amaravati: There should not be separate laws based on castes and religions, but there should be only one law to punish anybody in the country, observed TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, while opposing the Triple Talaq Bill introduced in the Parliament.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, addressing a press conference at Undavalli in Guntur on Monday, condemned the BJP for ignoring the objections of Muslim Minority leaders.
He said that the Centre must send it to Select Committee to consider the objections instead of passing it against to the interests of the Muslims. He said that in this Bill, the Central government was penalising the Muslims who say Talaq.
Stating that the TDP was not against to the removal of Triple Talaq, he explained that he has been opposing the provision in the bill which punish the Muslim men for saying Triple Talaq. He also spoke with Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other leaders over the issue and urged them to oppose the bill.
``If a marriage is invalid, then there must not be cases against the Muslim men. The act must be one for everyone in the country. But the BJP and NDA government wantonly bringing it to punish the Muslims. We are opposing it from the day one onwards. No question of compromise. Don’t try to harass them,” he said.
``Everybody has only one Law in the country. There should not be separate law for a caste or a religion. Muslims are also part of India. The proposed Bill is against to the spirit of democracy, “ he stated.
``We demand to send it to Select Committee. But they were doing for political credit. The Anna DMK and others bringing Cauvery issue to divert the discussion on the Triple Talaq bill. The same parties, ADMK, TRS and others did the same when No-Confidence Motion was moved by TDP earlier,” Naidu further said.
He said that he spoke to Rahul Gandhi, AAP supremo Aravind Kejriwal, Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee and others on the
issue to protect the interests of the Muslims. He said that he directed his party MPs to oppose the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, and also take support from other political parties in this regard.
