90 pc households in Prakasam have LPG connection

Ongole: The Central government has introduced Pradhan Mantri Ujwal Yojana 2 to provide LPG connections to the 8 crore families in the country and spending Rs 12,800 crore, announced Manas Kumar Guha, area sales manager of Indian Oil, in Ongole on Thursday.

He said that the Prakasam district has LPG gas penetration of 89.66 percent of households now.

Speaking to the media, Guha said that the PMUY is extended from 5 crore to 8 crore deposit-free LPG connections to BPL families in the country and is implementing the scheme with various programmes like SC/ST households, beneficiaries of PMAY, AAY, MBC and others. 

He explained that the LPG coverage of Prakasam district with a population of about 38.25 lakhs with 8.34 lakh households has increased from 78.92 percent on April 1, 2016 to 89.66 percent by December 1, 2018.

He said that the BPL families can get the deposit-free LPG connection and receive gas stove, cylinder, regulator and tube for free, but the government takes the subsidy for their first six cylinders. 

He announced that they are conducting a grand mega connection mela up to January 22 and taking up a lucky draw on January 26 with the new subscribers to offer refrigerator as first prize, TV as second prize and washing machine as the third prize.
