The much-awaited multi-level car parking (MLCP) works were started with an expenditure of Rs 9.7 crore. The project will ease traffic congestion in the city. Currently most cars occupy one-quarter of the lanes at prime locations in the city and causing traffic snarls.

Though the MLCP was proposed two years ago under the Smart city project to avoid traffic congestion in the city, finally the civil works were taken up by locally based VBS Engineering Automatic systems and mechanical car parking works by affordable Robotic Automation Limited, based at Pune.

The MLCP will provide parking facility for 100 cars through a six-level structure(G+5) of a puzzle parking system along with an App for real time tracking of vacant parking slots available.

The MLCP will be integrated to the Command Control Centre if required to monitor the parking slots.

The project will bring respite to parking problems of city to some extent, particularly in the busy Jagadamba junction.

The MLCP will be first introduced at Jagadamba Centre in a 367.8 square metres, said VBS Managing Partner A Venugopal Naidu. Naidu said that the MLCP works will be completed in five months.

According to GVMC official, as per the agreement signed, the private agency has to complete the project in six months. Another two multi-level car parking systems in the city, one in front of Kurusura Museum and another at VUDA office will be constructed to ease parking woes.

These two parking facilities would be taken up jointly by the GVMC and VUDA, the official added.

Recently the city police had taken one person into custody as he attacked a police constable after causing traffic snarls by stopping his two-wheeler at Dabagarden area, one of the busiest location in the city.

The accused alleged that most city lanes in prime locations were occupied by the cars without giving room for parking.
