Couple held for hurting minor girl
Visakhapatnam: Pendurthy police arrested a couple for hurting an 11-year-old minor girl and registered the cases under sections of life threatening, Women Protection Act and POCSO Act against her mother and step-father here on Monday.
According to Pendurthy Circle Inspector Surya Narayana Murthy, the victim was residing along with his mother, step-father and brother at Venkatadrinagar under Pendurthy police station limits.
After the death of the victim’s father, her mother (Sujatha) started living with another person Kiran Kumar (who was working at Zilla Parishad) along with her two children.
Sujatha and Kiran hit the head of minor girl with a log of wood and locked up in a room on Sunday. As the minor girl screamed louder, the neighbors had informed the child protection activists. Immediately their team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured minor girl to KGH and lodged a complaint against the couple.
The condition of minor girl was said to be out of danger, according to KGH doctors. Children Rights Protection Force (CRPF) secretary G Seetaram had visited the girl at KGH and enquired about the girl’s condition. He demanded stern action against parents as she had tried to eliminate the girl for her second husband’s sake and for her martial relationship.
If the couple could not raise their children, they might have approached to any child protection cell so that the State government would identify and raise them under the guidance of child protection officials. Police registered a case.
