Amaravati: Finance minister Yanalama Ramakrishnudu said the Supreme Court quashed the Central government’s notification authorising 10 central agencies to intercept, monitor and decrypt any computer system in the country.

Stating that the decision of the apex court was a major setback to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Ramakrishnudu said that the BJP government tried to enter the personal life of individuals.

In a press release here on Tuesday, the minister explained that this judgement would serve as a deterrent for the BJP leaders who had been misusing the Central investigative agencies against the political opponents across the country. He added that the Modi government ruined all the institutions, including CBI, Income Tax department, RBI and even dared to mislead the Supreme Court by giving wrong information.

Ramakrishnudu accused Modi of trying to use the constitutional institutions for his political mileage and to intimidate the opposition parties. By issuing the notification authorising 10 central agencies to infiltrate into the personal computers of individuals, the Central government violated the basic fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India, especially right to freedom of speech and expression, he said.

If the Central government tries to destroy the constitutional institutions in India, the Supreme Court will not remain silent, he observed. While welcoming the decision of the Modi government to provide reservation to poorer sections in upper castes, the finance minister said that it was a political stunt just before the general elections. He said that it would not materialise in true spirit, as political interests of the Modi and BJP were involved in the issue.
