Gurukul sports meet inaugurated in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The three-day state-level Inter Gurukul Society Sports meet for Boys and Girls was inaugurated by Tribal Welfare Department director Gandam Chandradu at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Wednesday. In all 1,400 students will participate in under 17 and under 19 categories in the meet.
Speaking on the occasion, Gandam Chandradu said that the government established six Gurukul societies to support the students in various fields to bring out hidden talent from them.
AP Social tribal welfare gurukul school secretary V Ramulu said that the sports meet was held under the social and tribal, BC welfare residential schools, hostels division. About 8 sports and 13 athletic events will be held for both boys and girls. He said that all the players should play with sportsman spirit which was very important in sports, he added.
AP residential schools secretary M Nagabushanam said that these sports were held for the first time in the state which includes six tribal societies of the state, he said and added this meet would bring out sports skills from the students.
