30-foot Tricolour hoisted at rly station
Vijayawada: A national flag measuring 20 feet wide and 30 feet long was hoisted on a 100-foot high pole at Vijayawada Railway Station by freedom fighters couple R Arjuna Rao (102) and wife Manorama (92) here on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, Arjuna Rao said that he was very happy to take part in the event.
Speaking to the media, Vijayawada DRM R Dhananjayulu said that the gigantic flag was being hoisted on the instructions from the Government of India.
He said that these massive flags were being hoisted at all the A1 category Railway stations across the country, He said that Vijayawada was closely connected with the national flag as Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of the Indian National Flag, hailed from Vijayawada.
He said that he was extremely happy and proud that the Arjun Rao couple, who were also freedom fighters and social reformers, unfurled the flag.
The flag was set up with an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh and focus lights were arranged on it for the convenience of passengers during the night.
He further said that this flag would develop love towards the nation and patriotism. These flags were set up at Visakhapatnam and Tirupathi railway stations also, he added.
