Stolen gold worth 60.51 lakh recovered from mother-son duo
Tirupati: The Central Crime Station (CCS) police arrested mother-son duo on suspicion at railway footover bridge here on Thursday morning and recovered Rs 60.51 lakh worth gold ornaments from them.
According to CCS DSP R Ravishankar Reddy, Shama (46) and her elder son Salim (26) are residents of Pangal Thangal in Thiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu.
Police were surprised when they saw gold jewellery on opening bag found with them, the DSP stated. On interrogation, Shama has confessed that her younger son Feroz had involved in a dacoity near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu on January 7, 2019. Feroz hid the stolen gold ornaments in his house.
Fearing police will arrest Feroz, she ran away with gold ornaments along with Salim. Both came to Tirupati on Thursday while shifting from one place to another. The Urban police has confirmed with their Tamil Nadu counterparts about stolen booty.
A dacoity case registered at KG Chavadi police station in Coimbatore district. A case was registered against mother-son duo on the charges of possessing stolen property and sent them to judicial remand.
It may be noted already few cases were registered against Salim and Feroz by the Tamil Nadu police for their involvement in red sanders smuggling.
