Capable to handle water shortage in summer, says civic chief

Anantapur: Municipal Commissioner PVSS Murthy has stated that preventive steps have been taken to tide over possible drinking water shortage in the forthcoming summer season. As part of measures to supply quality drinking water, the age-old pipelines have been replaced with new pipelines. The city population with 3.66 lakh gets water from PABR dam where 3.285 tmcft water is stored for drinking water. 

Several areas in the city including Lecturers Colony, Srinagar Colony, Georgepeta, Lakshmi Nagar, Ernala Kottalu, Somnath Nagar, Vidyut Nagar and Adimurthy Nagar have water scarcity problems. 

Talking to The Hans India, Murthy said that water through 23 tankers were being pressed into service to tackle water shortage.  Three motors which are faulty are kept in good condition. All leakages had been plugged. Civic chief said that all measures have been taken to handle water scarcity problems in summer. Also, big summer storage tanks are being constructed to store water for summer requirement.
