Krishna water to Chittoor city unlikely before upcoming polls
Chittoor: Diverting Krishna water to Chittoor city through HNSS may not be possible before the forthcoming elections, according to official information. The ruling TDP has made all sorts of efforts to keep up it’s promise of supplying Krishna waters to Chittoor City before elections.
With a view to supply drinking water to Chittoor city which consists of 50 divisions with 2.5 lakh population, it was proposed to construct a reservoir at Adavipalli near Piler and divert Krishna waters from Peddathippasamudram, HNSS Kuppam branch canal.
It was planned to utilise funds to a tune of Rs.280 cr. ( AMRUT scheme of Central Government) for Chittoor Drinking Water Supply scheme. A project report was already sent to State Government.
Mean while, Central Government has sought explanation from Chittoor Municipal Commissioner for diverting the AMRUT funds to a single project. As a result and funds flow from the Centre has been stopped for the proposed project.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Chittoor Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh admitted that the proposed drinking water supply scheme was facing certain problems at all levels. ``It will be very difficult to complete the proposed project in two years.
The Public Works department is looking after the progress of the project. Pumping the water through pipe lines from Adavipalli reservoir to Chittoor will be a herculean task” he said.
