Police trace radio-active material at Kalidindi village
Rajamahendravaram: Urban Superintendent of Police Dr Shemushi Bajpayee said that ONGC's missed radio-active substance CS-137 (2.5 curie) was traced at Kalidindi village of Krishna district on Wednesday. Disclosing the details at a media conference held at the police guest house here on Wednesday night, she said on a tipoff, special teams which are searching for the missed material, found it at a scrap shed in Kalidindi village.
The radio-active material was intact and the people need not panic. It will be brought back to the city through a licensed vehicle by the ONGC experts, she said. Along with the police, NDRF teams also took part in this search. ONGC lodged a complaint at Bommuru police station about the missing of radio-active substance on January 7.
Based on the complaint, five special teams were formed and the teams searched for the material in Krishna, East and West Godavari districts. No one was arrested and investigation is going on. The culprits will be nabbed shortly, the SP added.
The missing radio-active substance created panic among people and rumours were spread. In view of the severity of the case, special teams were pressed into service, she said. Additional Superintendent of Police (crimes) V Ramana Kumar, East zone deputy superintendent of police Nagaraju and others were present.
