Vijayawada: Communist party of India (Marxist) took strong exception to the proposal to shift the wholesale vegetable market near the municipal corporation office to the area of now defunct Excel plant.  The CPM activists staged dharna at the Excel plant near Singh Nagar in the city on Friday to mark the protest against the plans to hand over the valuable land for other purposes.

CPM leader Ch Babu Rao addressing the gathering said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao promised the poor people during the elections that houses would be constructed at the Excel plant. He reminded the TDP leaders that the place is surrounded by the G+3 houses and it would be harmful to the people to establish industries there.

He expressed concern that the land where wholesale vegetable market is existing near the municipal corporation office would be handed over to the individuals. He demanded that the land should be given to the poor people’s housing. Jana Sena leader Syed Abdul Nazeeb warned the MLA that the people would teach him a fitting lesson in the elections.

CPM leaders B Ramana Rao, K Durga Rao, G Jhansi, Ch Srinivas, P Venkata Reddy and Jana Sena leaders S Suresh, B Sai Naik, Ramu and and others were present.
