Free legal help to prisoners: DLSA

Ongole: District Legal Services Authority secretary and senior civil judge T Raja Venkatadri said that the court provides free legal help through the DLSA to the inmates of jail who cannot afford a lawyer.

He visited the district jail in Ongole on Monday and interacted with the inmates and officials.

Speaking to the prisoners, Raja Venkatadri said that developing a behaviour with moral values moulds them into a perfect human being. 

He assured the prisoners not to worry about the financial constraints to hire a lawyer for fighting their case. 

He said that the court will allow a lawyer through the District Legal Services Authority, if it finds the accused cannot bear the fees.

Later, the judge inspected the facilities being provided to the inmates and the quality of the food being given to them. He made a few suggestions to the officials to develop the facilities.

The lawyer D Rajendra Prasad, paralegal volunteer BV Sagar, jailer PS Ramachandrarao, deputy jailer Venkatagiri and other jail staff also participated in the programme.
