National meet on prison designs today
Visakhapatnam: A national conference on prison designs, a first of its kind conference in the country, will be held in the city on January 29. In order to review the present prisons, systems being practiced, sharing of the expertise and new designs to be adopted and the challenges will be discussed in the conference.
Over 15 DGPs of Prisons from various states including Bihar, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will attend the conference. After the meeting, the conference will prepare a document on the existing designs and practices and new designs and new modalities for execution in the coming days. The document will be sent to the Union Home Affairs.
According to the sources, the conference will discuss about the main gate entry to cell where the prisoners will stay, bunk bed, toilets, open place, how to maintain the standards in prison and common code of prisons.
At present, each state is having its own style of administration and prison designs. The conference will prescribe a common designs and code for implementation at national level. Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa will inaugurate the conference. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao will be present.
