Meet focuses on challenges in statistics
Tirupati: The Society of Statistics, Computer and Applications (SSCA) has organised a national conference on challenges and opportunities in statistics at SV Agricultural College campus here on Wednesday.
Dr R B Barman, former Chairman of the National Statistical Commission, has participated as chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Barman emphasised the role of statistics and also how the statistical methods can be applied in the futuristic humanosphere.
Prof D C Nath, the guest of honour, from Assam University explained about myths in statistics and the role of computer software for better predictions and interpretation of data.
Later, the Dean of Agriculture Dr J Krishna Prasad, who conducted the presidential proceedings, has explained about the importance of statistics in agricultural research. He requested the society to do futuristic research to address the problems facing by the scientists in agricultural domain and other allied areas.
Eminent statistician Dr K Srinivasa Rao in his key note address has explained about the non-linear models with non-normal errors and their applications. He explained the importance of normal distribution if not what precautions can be done to do good estimations.
For that he explained, there is a need of developing a new software for addressing the problems of mesokurtic, platykurtic and leptokurtic. The keynote speaker is honoured by SSCA President Dr V K Gupta.
Dr G Mohan Naidu, the organising secretary arranged all requirements for the national conference. The convener of the conference Dr V Srinivasa Rao proposed the vote of thanks. In the conference, MN Das Memorial Lecture was given by Dr MR Srinivasan, Professor, Madras University.
Around 144 delegates from various states have attended the conference.
