10 children undergo complex cardiac surgeries in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: As many as 10 children have undergone complex paediatric cardiac surgeries at the Heart and Brain Institute of Andhra Hospitals in association with Healing Little Hearts, UK team since January 28, according to Dr P V Rama Rao, chief of children’s services here on Thursday.

Addressing the media, Dr Rama Rao said that complex surgeries on children have been performed by a team of 10 doctors from UK’s world famous hospitals – Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, Freeman Hospital and New Castle England, UK. They performed free heart surgeries during this week.

He said the team led by Dr Vikram K, Dr Dileep, Dr Mohammed Nassar, Dr Giuseppe Pelella and Dr Jacopo Ghirelli, Dr Shirley Ann Charlton and Sara Heather Webster, Dr Alexandra Anne Fournel, Dr Janelyn Sabala Vega, Dr Yamuna Thirunavukkarasu, Dr Manish Sonkusole performed all complex heart surgeries.

Dr Sreeman Narayana, cardiologist said that this is the 17th cardiac surgery camp held during the last three years with about 99 percent success rate.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India’ here on Thursday, D Revathi from Gollaprolu, mother of one-year-old Vinod said that she was happy and thanked the hospital management and the visiting UK doctors’ team who had successfully performed the cardiac surgery free of cost.
