Lukewarm response to bandh in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: The AP Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi (APPHSS) called bandh on Friday received mixed response across Srikakulam district. The Congress, CPI, CPM, TDP and other people’s organisations took part in the bandh. However, the BJP, YSRCP and Jana Sena stayed away from the agitations. Meanwhile APSRTC operated its services as usual since morning though the APPHSS representatives, leaders of Congress, CPI, CPM, TDP staged agitations in front of bus depots.

The agitators demanded Special Category Status (SCS) to AP and implementation of assurances made by Central government during the State division. All private educational institutions also divided into two groups and as a result, only some schools, colleges managements declared holiday in advance on Thursday but some institutions functioned as usual. Shops and commercial establishment opened as usual at 10.30 am and continued their business. Private transport vehicles also run as usual on the roads.

Cinema theatres also exhibits their shows as usual. Except some rallies and dharnas in some parts in the district, the bandh went off peaceful without any untoward incidents. Meanwhile police made elaborate security arrangements in the wake of bandh call. Government employees also staged agitations in Srikakulam under the aegis of APNGOs. Bandh also received mixed response in Rajam, Tekkali, Palakonda, Palasa, Itchapuram, Narasannapeta and Sompeta in the district.
