‘3,900 people got vision in north coastal districts’

Visakhapatnam: Managing Trustee and CEO of Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital K B N Manimala said the foundation screened and treated 17,48,263 people for various eye related issues till January 31, 2019 and performed 2,91,198 eye surgeries, of them 2,24,990 surgeries completely at free of cost. 

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Manimala said the foundation has performed 29,249 surgeries in all sub specialties of eye care including retina, glaucoma, cornea, orbit oculoplastic and pediatric ophthalmology. 

The foundation also screened 2,72,893 students from 1,307 government schools through eye camps and made an impact on the lives of 6,721 students with improved vision, the CEO explained.

Talking about the INOX group of companies association with the foundation, Manimala said the INOX associating with the foundation from 2013, financed an amount of Rs 2.46 crore for various activities. 

With the help of funds as many as 3,900 blind people got vision in the north coastal districts. With the support of the INOX, the foundation acquired ultra Green Laser equipment used for treatment of diabetic retinopathy. 

The foundation in association with INOX would organise eight mega eye camps in the north coastal districts in the present fiscal, Manimala said.
