BSNL launches 4G service in select places
Tirupati: The BSNL had at last launched its 4G mobile services in Chittoor district which is available in select places in the district from Tuesday. However, the denizens of the pilgrim city Tirupati and Tirumala and others places in the district have to wait till March to get the services as the BSNL still to upgrade the towers to extend 4G services.
Speaking to media here on Tuesday, BSNL general manager MSA Nutan said that to begin with BSNL 4G services will be available in the border town Puttur where the services will be available in the areas covered under 6 towers and also in Gundrajakuppam another border area.
In the next two or three days, 4G service will be provided in four more areas including Arepalli Rangampera (Chandragiri), SV Engineering College near Chittoor town, Barlapalli (Madanapalle) and Varadaiapalem, also a border town in the district. The BSNL subscribers in these areas requested to change their 3G SIM to 4G which is provided free of cost to them.
The customers can get 4G SIM from BSNL Sevakendras in Tirupati, Puttur, Sathyavedu, Chittoor, Chandragiri and Madanapalle to replace their existing 3G SIM. Nutan said that efforts are on to extend 4G services soon in the remaining 58 places in the district where the arrangement for providing 4G services is nearing completion.
The BSNL opted the strategy of providing 4G services first in the remote rural areas where latest 4G service is still to reach, he said, adding that this was keeping in view that with no exception all the private players have already penetrated and focusing more in the towns and cities in the borders district Chittoor.
He said the BSNL also introduced new plans to its landline services which is available for a minimum of Rs 299 monthly onwards providing unlimited internet facility along with unlimited calls. This was to retain the landline customers and also to attract new subscribers.
