Cancer awareness rally organised in Guntur
Guntur: District Medical and Health officer Dr Yasmin on Monday flagged off 4K Walkathon conducted by the American Oncology Institute here on Monday on the occasion of World Cancer Day.
The Walkathon which saw participation in large numbers holding placards and banners started from the stadium. After covering Lakshmipuram junction, Koritepadu road, Vidya nagar, it reached NTR stadium again.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Y Yasmin said, “It is a need for a commitment to help drive advancements in cancer, particularly in states like ours where we have lot of people with insufficient resources."
Medical Director, American Oncology Institute, Dr N Subba Rao, Guntur said, “It is important to address the menace of growing incidence of cancer with urgency and in a coordinated manner with due emphasis on prevention, timely diagnosis and effective treatment.”
At the programme held in Omega hospitals in Guntur, Dr M G Naga Kishore stressed on need to diagnosis the cancer cases at the earliest.
Speaking on this occasion, the doctors urged the people to stay away from consumption of tobacco in any form.
Later, several cancer patients who won the fight against deadly disease shared their experiences.
