Oruganti Reddys demand corporation in Ongole
Ongole: The Oruganti Reddy Samkshema Sangham demanded that the state government include them in the category of BCs and announce a special corporation for their progress and development.
The association secretary, Dwaram Venugopal Reddy, said that the Oruganti Reddys were living in the coastal areas by cultivating vegetables and flowers. He said that though they were considered as OCs in the state, Tamil Nadu and Odisha included them into category of backward classes.
He said that there was not a single official from their caste and that shows their poverty levels and inability of their children to continue expensive education. He said that the demand to include Oruganti Reddys into BCs was a long pending plea before the state government and Puttuswamy Commission recommended to include them in BCs.
Later, the Punnaiah Commission and Manjunatha Commission suggested the government to form a corporation for their development if it cannot include them in BCs.
Venugopal Reddy said that there are 5 lakh members belonging to the Oruganti Reddys in 18 Assembly constituencies and 9 Parliament constituencies in Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur and Krishna districts.
He said that though there were influencing number of voters from the community, no government has heeded to their demand up to now. He announced that the Oruganti Reddy Samkshema Sangham would continue to agitate for the corporation if the government continues to neglect the demand.
Raju Adisesha Reddy, president of the association, Raju Nagireddy, convener of the Prakasam district, Maruboyina Yanadireddy, Yerramala Jalireddy and others also participated in the programme.
