81 doctors join primary health centres in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: All primary health centres (PHCs) across the district have enough medical officers. Out of total 80 PHCs across the district, the total sanctioned doctors’ posts are 132.

Of the total posts, only 34 regular doctors’ posts were filled previously and the remaining 98 posts laid vacant for the last several years. Recently the State government approved to fill these 98 posts on contract basis.

Based on it, the recruitment drive was conducted by district medical and health officers and counselling conducted for all the 98 posts of them 81 candidates joined in their duties. Due to lack of doctors, people in rural areas were facing trouble to get quality medical treatment and with the appointment of new doctors, the rural people will get quality treatment. 

“Out of total 98 posts, 81 doctors joined and we have allotted them to various PHCs in the district,” said District Medical and Health Officer Dr M Chenchayya.
